15 January 2012 Wagner P.I. - Pretty Incredible @ 125/1!
Wagner never registered on our radar anytime in 2011 however he popped up last week in Hawaii when we clocked his weekend scores of 68 and 67 which helped him finish inside the top 10 for the first time since his second PGA Tour victory last February at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. We won't pretend to have any other reason to tip him this week other than that finish but we definitely felt that he was over-priced at 125/1 after such a sterling weekend performance. However the Magnum jokes were lost on 31 year old Wagner who had to google Mr Selleck and he wasn't too upset with what he found, "The guys a stud", quipped Wagner. Unfortunately Mrs Wagner does not agree. Wagners's wife Katie hates the new look but is looking on the bright side, "At least it's better than the full beard and moustache he had over the Christmas period!" After an early bogey on the 6th hole of the final round, Wagner bounced back from the two-stroke deficit at the start of the day to join the leaders with birdies at the 7th and 9th holes. With his playing partner Charles Howell stalling on the back nine Wagner took advantage with two more birdies on the way home to secure the win and a tidy $990,000 for the bank account. Meanwhile back at T&W Towers Higgins and TC are keeping the beers flowing and Zeus and Apollo are keeping any unwanted guests away from the front door - ask your folks! |
13 November 2011 Greg's 55 Comes Alive Down Under
With Louis Oosthuizen's each way return at the Barclay's Singapore Open thrown in we definitely put one over on the bookies and for a while it looked like we may have been permanently banned from their doorstep when our other Aussie tip Rohan Blizard hit the top 5 after 36 holes at the Lakes Golf Club in Sydney. We had done our homework on the Aussie tour and managed to unearth Blizard as a possible contender at 300/1 after a great run of form and a top 10 finish here last year. So when his second round 67 put him into a tie for 5th spot we started to get more than a little excited, not just about the possible financial gains but the dream headlines we could put on the site. Sadly however the Blizard fizzled out over the weekend but for a little while at least we got to dream - thankfully the 55/1 return on Chalmers more than made up for the 'Blizard Storms Down Under' petering out. |
24 July 2011 Noren Brings Dough Home from Stockholm! We had a very strange experience 'watching' Alexander Noren bring home the cash for us in the Nordea Masters. The T&W team were away on one of our rare golfing jaunts at the Home of Golf and were relying on a combination of text, tweets and dodgy tv pictures to keep up with how our man was doing. Ordinarily an 11 stroke lead going into the last round means that the taxi to the bookies doesn't even need to get booked as the bookie should be chapping at your front door with your cash on the Sunday morning!! However as we hacked our way around the hallowed turf of St Andrews that 11 stroke lead very quickly turned to 7, 6 then 5 and pretty soon we were panicking more than an investigative journalist on Fleet Street as the chasing pack closed in. Obviously we were aware from texts and tweets that conditions at the Bro Hof course were outrageously windy but then some bright spark suggested watching the action on his iPhone with the new Sky Go app (send cheque to T&W Towers please Mr Sky) but this just heightened our anxiety as we kept losing the picture (okay cheque back in the post) just as Ewen Murray would say something like, "Oh dear Noren has just.....". Thankfully our man held bravely on in atrocious conditions and our 28/1 return almost covered the bill as we tried our best to return St Andrews to its dark old days of being a dry town. Noren's win moved him into the top 10 in the Race to Dubai, top 70 in the world rankings, gave him his 3rd European Tour win (and he has always led going into the last day) but more importantly he put a small dent in a drinks bill that would have shamed a City of London banker....... circa 2008. |
21 March 2011 Transition Transfers 100/1 Winner For Us! After the heartache of watching Nick Watney lift the WGC Cadillac Championship after we said he was the one to watch - and never tipped him! - we were thankful that the golfing Gods were looking after us and just one week later rewarded our kind (stupid?) gesture with a win of our own.
With a congested leaderboard closing in, he used the flat blade just 10 times in 9 holes and indeed he never missed a single putt on Sunday from inside 20 feet, but none more crucial than the 10ft par putt at the 72nd hole that 'sealed the deal'. A few readies for our members and a cool $900,000 for Mr Woodland...... oh and a place at Augusta.......huge driver and a great touch on the greens?.......before you look it up.....he's 150/1. |
14 February 2011 Roses are Red, Violets are Blue....shut up and geez the cash! It's a lovers weekend apparently with all this commerical Valentine's Day claptrap but the only thing we love is taking money off the bookies and boy did we deliver this weekend. We picked out Spaniard Alvaro Quiros to collect the readies in Dubai and over in the States Tom Gillis came close to an almighty double for us in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am. It was the finale of the Desert Swing on the European Tour and we knew that Quiros's run of form and record in Dubai made him a great shout a 20/1 to take hime the 'teapot' trophy. However he almost gave us a heart attack full of emotions as he careered all over the Emirates course like Seve in his heyday trying to capture the title. First up was an eagle two at the 2nd hole when he pitched in, then came a triple bogey at the 8th hole which all but evaporated the three stroke lead he had built up over the front nine - then - just when we thought things couldn't get any crazier he goes and holes his tee shot at the par 3 11th hole with a 'three quarter' wedge!! Thankfully he never looked back from then (sort of!) although our 40/1 in-runner Anders Hansen pushed him all the way to the finishing line. Across the pond we had 'veteran' Tom Gillis to thank for a fantastic 100/1 each way payout at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am. Gillis was rarely outside of the top 10 from late on Thursday and he held his nerve down the closing straight as a host of big names charged up the leaderboard. His 3rd place finish topped off a terrific weekend for us and we might even stop off at the garage on the way home from the bookies today to pick up some flowers for our lucky ladies!! |
30 August 2010 Kuchar Banks 40/1 Win at Barclays! We knew an all-round solid game was needed to contest at Ridgewood Country Club in the first tournament in the FedEx Play-offs and that's why we picked out Matt Kuchar to win the Barclays tournament and take pole position after the first event of this four event mega-bucks mini-tour. K Kuchar's third career PGA victory put him in pole position for the $10m winner's prize for the Tour Championship in three weeks time and will give him even more confidence going into his first ever Ryder Cup appearance at Celtic Manor in October. The win also gave our members our 7th win of the season and our 5th at odds of 33/1 or more. |
21 June 2010 Big Mac Value Deal at 80/1! A career-changing win for Graeme McDowell at the US Open in McDowell is a player who is on our radar for all four majors this year, particularly the Open Championship at St Andrews, and when he tore the field apart at Celtic Manor with a final round 63 to run away with the Wales Open title we knew the time was right to strike for his first major victory. The win means that McDowell is the first European to lift the trophy for over 40 years and lifted him to 13th in the world rankings. For TipAndWin it means a heavy night on the lash. |
13 June 2010 Natural Bjorn Tippers!
It was a tough call finding a player to put our 'win' money on this week bearing in mind that the course, Penha Longa, had not been used on the European Tour for 15 years and it was an element of luck that played its part in Bjorn's selection. Our original choice was the in-form Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts but after his late withdrawal we had to look elsewhere. Luckily for us we had a spy following the Open Qualifying at Sunningdale on Monday and he was quickly on the phone to us to advise of a couple of players playing well, one of who was Mr Bjorn. The Dane had recently missed 6 cuts on the spin but a top 10 finish at the Celtic Manor Wales Open pointed to better things to come and this combined with his Sunningdale play certainly merited his inclusion. Thankfully our faith in the veteran 39 year old was richly rewarded after he birdied holes 14 and 15 on the final day to pull 5 shots clear of Green after the Aussie had closed the gap to a single stroke at one stage. Bjorn's 40/1 victory put a welcome shine on our 2010 NoticeBoard and will hopefully give our season a belated boost as we move into a crucial stage of the year with the US Open and Open Championship tournaments on the horizon. |
11 October 2009 McGowan Makes 50/1 Impression in Madrid! It's not every Sunday you roll out of bed knowing you're a certainty to collect a 50/1 winner from the bookies later in the day but that's exactly how we felt after the third round of the Madrid Masters in Spain. Our 50/1 selection Ross McGowan had made an excellent start to the tournament with consecutive rounds of 66 on the opening two days but he literally blew the field away with a blistering round of 60 on day three to change 'moving day' to 'see ya later day' and open up a massive seven stroke lead. Of course it wasn't all plain sailing on the final day as a pesky Finn by the name of Mikko Ilonen decided to try and gatecrash our party by carding 6 birdies in the first 15 holes, whilst our man was treading water, and all of a sudden there was only two strokes between them. Thankfully that was as close as it got although McGowan did make us cross our legs tighter than we would have liked when his approach to the final hole came to rest on the wooden sleepers at the side of the green. Ten minutes later however we were celebrating a three stroke victory and a very much needed return to winning ways after a dismal run of form that even Monty couldn't put a positive spin on! |
2 August 2009 And the Oskar Goes To..... TipAndWin!! Despite kicking off the tournament with a double bogey 7 at his first hole on Thursday, Henningsson started the final day 3 strokes behind Steve Webster but early birdies from the Swede and a couple of bogeys from the Englishman soon had the pair tied at the top of the leaderboard. After an excellent outward 32 the 23 year old could even afford to tap in his only bogey of the round at the final hole for a comfortable two shot victory. |
10 May 2009 Stensational Players for TipAndWin! There was some concern that Henrik Stenson was becoming more famous for stripping down to his undies than for his golfing game but the team at TipAndWin had faith that the big Swede would return to his previous form very soon. Sure enough this week at the Players the big fella came good at 50/1 and to top off a brilliant weekend for us, our second tip, Ian Poulter at 66/1, chased the big-striking Scandinavian all the way to the finish line for a second place finish. All eyes were on German Alex Cejka and his 5 stroke lead going into the final round and many were predicting his collapse to allow Tiger Woods to capture his umpteenth PGATour title. Well we too expected the backside to fall out of Cejka's game but unlike other pundits, we were confident that either Poulter or Stenson would take advantage and not Tiger. With a perfect final round of 66, Stenson was the only player to keep a bogey off his card on Sunday and although Poulter ran him close, his final day 70 was only good enough for the bridessmaid role. With Thomas Aiken's 50/1 placed finish at the BMW Italian Open our punters cleared over £400 for their weekly £5 each way bet. |
29 March 2009 Dane Costas Bookies Another Win
Kjeldsen certainly put us through the wringer however with a nail-biting climax to Sunday's final round. At the halfway stage our 35/1 tip had plenty of work to do after opening rounds of 68 and 72 left him 5 strokes behind the 36 hole leader, Marcel Siem however a blistering course record 62 on Saturday catapulted him into the lead and indeed at one point we had the financial advisor on the line getting investment advice for our winnings as the Dane stretched his lead to seven strokes. Come tee time on Sunday that lead was cut to just a single stroke but again our hopes were lifted when a couple of birdies around the turn put him three ahead of the chasing pack. That lead was not long in disappearing and after he dunked his approach to the 15th into the lake our chances look doomed until a handy 18ft par putt kept him in the game. When closest challenger David Drysdale started to freeze over the closing holes our man came home in style to win by three strokes but boy did he make us sweat for a while! |
8 February 2009 Bookies Invite Win at the Buick After a ropey start to 2009 normal serviced was resumed by the team at TipAndWin at th The stats pointed to a big hitter enjoying the South Course at Torrey Pines and Watney certainly falls into that category with his regular wallop from the tee averaging over 300 yards making him the 7th biggest hitter on Tour. Nobody knocked it further than the 27 year-old at the previous week’s FBR Open where he placed a very respectable 12th and coming into an event that he had previously enjoyed some success with a 9th place finish in 2007 we knew he could surprise the bookies with a run at the title. Speaking of the bookies, we think Watney has the game for the year's first major at Augusta so we'll be taking a slice of the 150/1 on offer just now from Ladbrokes and we recommend you do likewise. Meanwhile back at the ranch the eternal optimists in the office had their doubts with 5 holes to play on Sunday with our man trailing John Rollins by 3 strokes. Those doubts were cast aside however when Watney rolled in a 40ft birdie putt at the 16th hole and when Rollins failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker at the 72nd hole all our boy had to do was lag up his 40ft putt for eagle and the game was up! |
30 November 2008 Time for Another Winner at the Casio
Right away we kicked off with a winner when tournament favourite, Shingo Katayama, lived up to his pre-match billing to give us a decent 10/1 win at the Visa Taiheiyo Masters. The very next week European invader Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano almost stole away with the spoils at the Dunlop Phoenix but his 33/1 return for finishing in 3rd spot still put a smile on our faces. Next up was the Casio World Open and when we fell into bed in the early hours of Sunday morning, our 50/1 tip Koumei Oda, held a two stroke lead. An early rise in the morning and it was straight into the office to check on the overnight scores. Great news was waiting for us when first of all Rod Pampling came through the pack to win the Australian Masters for us at 20/1 and when our bleary eyes eventually found the Casio scores we very quickly calculated that our man had held onto to his lead to give us a brilliant three stroke win. Oda's 50/1 payout gave us a £300 profit for our two week soiree in the East and Down Under to confirm that we are definitely world beaters! |
19 October 2008 100/1 Bravery Rewarded with Victoria Quiros! Hot on the heels of last week's fantastic payout we made the short trip from Spain to Portugal Having hacked our way around the new Victoria Course in Vilamoura ourselves a couple of years ago we knew some of the big hitters would tear this course apart (unlike some of us eh Eck?!) and that's why we went with Quiros again after we collected on his 4th place finish last weekend in Madrid. With an opening round of 66 the engaging Spaniard with the wacky sense of humour never looked like letting us down and after he rolled in an outrageous 50ft birdie putt on the the first hole of the final day we started to count our chickens - which was a huge mistake - he immediately bogeyed the 2nd hole to hand the lead to Ross Fisher (thankfully another of our tips) and that set the tone for an afternoon when the lead changed hands many times between Quiros, Fisher and the Swede Robert Karlsson. The champagne corks finally exploded however when Fisher bogeyed three on the spin and Karlsson dunked his ball in the drink at the 17th. A 5ft birdie for Quiros at the last handed him a three shot victory and our biggest payout from the bookies since our 125/1 win with SSP Chowrasia at the Indian Masters back in February. |
12 October 2008 No Short Sell with Schwartzel!
Not content with successfully selecting South African winner Charl Schwartzel at 25/1 the team also picked out local heroes Pablo Larrazabal and Alvaro Quiros for places at 66/1 and 125/1 respectively. A £50 outlay at this week's event netted punters a healthy £350 profit (we'll gloss over the shocking in-runners) a return which no bank or financial institution can offer in today's current climate. Club de Campo is a course which favours good ball strikers and few players hit the ball as sweetly as Schwartzel so we knew his current form (13th and 5th in his last two events) made him an outstanding shout to walk away with the title this week. We took more satisfaction (and cash!) from Larrazabal and Quiros's places as neither player was showing much form but we had an inkling that with home support both players would show up well this week. Our return would have been even better if a certain member of the team had listened to the advice to include Robert Rock (4th @ 100/1) in the week's selections but we'll let him out the TipAndWin basement as soon as he recants his devilish ways. So screw the banks - there's only one way to make a profit these days - sign up to TipAndWin! Canny members who joined this year have made over £2,000 in 2008 and the season is not finished yet! |
17 August 2008 Wyndham Up Boys We Gotta Winner! Carl Pettersson's form coming into the Wyndham Championship was nothing to shout about - Pettersson may be a Swede by birth but he considers North Carolina to be his home after attending college in the State and now keeping his home there. His 5th place finish in 2007 told us everything we needed to know about his chances this week. He has stated numerous times previously that he considered the 'Wyndham' to be his 5th major and he proved how serious he took the event by turning up a day earlier at the course than almost the entire field to get in some extra practice. That paid off big time with a four round total of 259 which included a career best second round 61 to stroll to 2 shot victory at tidy odds of 33/1. Pettersson was cheered around the course by former college schoolmates from North Carolina State University but not as loudly as the team at TipAndWin Towers as he gave us our 11th winner of the season to take our 2008 profit to £1,800 - yeeha! |
14 July 2008 10th Winner of the Season is a Loch!
|
30 June 2008 Cink We're Perry Good?! Ask Jeeves! They may not have been our biggest winners of the season but our last three winning tips have taken our seasons earnings The Jeevster orchestrated a fine win in All three of our selections were Free Tips giving regular freetippers a handsome return of £350 for a £5 e/w outlay during the month of June. |
18 May 2008 Another 50/1 Winner - It's So Japaneasy!
Imada came onto our radar after finishing 17th at the Wachovia Championship where his putting ranked him head and shoulders above the rest of the field in first place. After we had factored in his collegiate golf experience with 4 years of golfing in the Georgia area we knew we had dug out a player with a decent shot at the title and so it proved when Perry dumped his approach at the first extra play-off hole to hand victory to our 50/1 tip who was certainly no flash in Japan! The weekend was topped off with Robert Karlsson and Lee Westwood both grabbing places in the Irish Open and the aforementioned Byrd put the proverbial icing on the cake by rolling in a 30ft eagle putt at the last place to finish 4th at 40/1! |
20 April 2008 66 Reasons We're Singing in McGrane! The alarm was set for 5.00am so we could haul ourselves out of bed to see if Irishman Damien McGrane could hold on to his The previous week McGrane moved under our radar with four great rounds of 67, 69, 67 and 66 to finish 6th at the Estoril Open de Portugal but it was his putting on the last day which stood out and gave us all the convincing we needed to back him this week at 66/1. And so it was on that last day when his challengers quickly fell by the wayside as McGrane ground out a brilliant round of 73 in the worst playing conditions of the season and as his bogey putt dropped into the hole at the 18th it took his tally for the week to an incredible 96 putts in 72 holes - an amazing stat. However the most important stat was his odds of 66/1 which gave us our 5th winner of the year and sends us racing towards breaking the £2000 profit barrier in winnings this year! |
24 March 2008 No Miami Blues With Another Monster Win!
We picked Ogilvy out at terrific odds of 66/1 to end Tiger Wood's consecutive winning streak and although things did get a bit nervous over the closing holes, the Aussie held his game together to finish with 9 straight pars during Monday's delayed final round. Ogilvy's final round 71 was good enough to edge out Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen who all tied for second spot with Tiger back in 5th place. Goosen's runner-up spot gave us another reason to down a few sherberts after we picked him out at 100/1 giving us a very healthy 25/1 each way return for his efforts. Both Ogilvy and Goosen had been on our radar before the event and we were just waiting for an upturn in their form which thankfully came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week where both players tied for 14th spot. That's our 4th win of the year to take our annual profits close to £1500 and our three year total to almost £6,500 - we expect to be out the pub by Wednesday - just in time to pick out next week's winners for you! |
16 March 2008 Punters Toast 30/1 Winner at Ballantines Despite his best efforts to the contrary Graeme McDowell secured our third winner of the season with a 30/1 victory at the McDowell led by five strokes at one point in round three but Indian stalwart Jeev Milkha Singh was on his tail all weekend and indeed held a three stroke lead of his own in the early part of Sunday's final round. Thankfully for us the Northern Ireland professional managed to claw that deficit back and when Singh bogeyed the 71st hole the match was all square. Both players missed outside chances on the last hole to take the title and a play-off ensued with Singh canning a 20ft par putt on the second extra hole to stay in the match before seeming to clinch victory with a great approach on the next hole to lie 6ft from the pin. Step up McDowell to hit a sublime 7 iron to within a foot of the cup and when the Indian missed his birdie opportunity a delighted McDowell stroked in the winning putt. Three wins this season combined with 12 other placed winners has given us a great start to 2008 from the opening 20 tournaments. |
9 March 2008 35/1 Winner? - Atwal Do Nicely!!
In addition to the steady form he had shown over the last few weeks we also knew the Atwal had another major reason for playing well this week. He received word earlier in the week that vehicular manslaughter charges against him, filed last year after a boy racer incident in Florida which which ended in the death of the other driver, had been dropped due to lack of evidence. All very sad for the other party but we knew a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders and that a good tournament was on the horizon. That win took our profits for 2008 to over £800 and the golf season doesn't really start for most folk until the Masters next month.................. have we mentioned we tipped Zach Johnson there last year at 200/1?! |
SSP Chowrasia! If ever a guy with a silly name was worth a Monday morning hangover it's Mr Chowrasia! Actually we say How did we dig out Chowrasia at 125/1 then? Well with a bit of good old fashioned donkey work and some excellent inside information. Our research into the inaugural MGF Indian Masters highlighted a couple of local players who had good form at the course and SSP was one of them. He was runner-up to Jyoti Randhawa in 2006 when the event was part of the Asian Tour only and last year his 9th place finish was his only top 10 of the season however we were convinced to go with him when we got wind of a betting coup by the local caddies who were planning a little wager on the 29 year old and that was all the info we needed to go piling in - let's hope you did too! And we almost pulled of an Indian double with Gaurav Ghei at 125/1 for a top 5 finish but he struck the crossbar after a couple of mid round bogeys before finishing in 6th spot. |
